Police crackdown on Kremlin protest

Several dozen supporters of Russia’s opposition have been protesting outside the Kremlin.

The group Left Front are angry that their leader Sergei Udaltsov is spending 15 days in jail for an unsanctioned rally in July.

The police were quickly on the scene and moved in to disperse the protesters.

“United Russia have not kept any of their pre-election promises,” one woman told reporters, “and I think there should be another political party in power who can turn this country around and get us out of the catastrophic mess that we are currently in.”

The so-called “Day of Wrath” is held at the beginning of each month. The demonstrators are people angered by what they say is the government’s preoccupation with the economy. Around 30 people were arrested.
