Former Real Madrid coach Jose Antonio Camacho has arrived in Beijing to take up his new job as coach of China’s national football team.
His brief is clear, but not so simple, qualification for the 2014 World Cup, something the football mad nation has achieved only once before in 2002:
“The only thing I can say is that the whole coaching team is happy and proud to be here, and we will try to carry this project as far as we can,” he said.
Camacho will be working against a backdrop of corruption, demanding employers and a young fan base reared on TV pictures of the English premier league.
