Putin takes to the depths in the Black Sea

In what many believe is the latest election photo opportunity Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has been filmed scuba diving in the Black Sea.

He was seen on Russian television just happening to discover two 6th century Greek urns in an ancient underwater archaeological site.

It was another high-profile stunt which has heightened speculation among Russians that Putin is set to run for office in next year’s presidential election.

Neither Putin nor incumbent President Dmitry Medvedev have declared their intention to stand, but there is strong speculation that Putin will again seek the presidency.

A few months before he was first elected in 2000, then acting president Putin flew to Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic, in a fighter jet.
