The chamber-maid at the centre of rape accusations against the former IMF chief has filed a civil lawsuit against her alleged attacker.
Nafissatou Diallo claims she was violently sexually assaulted at the hands of Dominique Strauss-Kahn in a New York hotel in May.
The civil suit which does not seek specific damages is in parallel with the continuing criminal case.
That investigation has wavered for weeks since prosecutors threw doubt on her credibility.
Strauss-Kahn has denied the allegations and his lawyers claim the civil case shows Diallo is motivated by money. A criminal conviction would guarantee victory in a civil case, but the latter could still succeed even if the criminal case was dismissed as Diallo only has to show her version of events is more likely than Strauss-Kahn’s.
