Russia’s Vera Zvonareva advanced to Sunday’s final of the Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego after beating Ana Ivanovic 5-7 6-4 6-4.

The former world number one threatened a comeback after trailing 5-1 in the final set, but Zvonareva finally closed out the match, booking her place in the final.

The Russian will meet Agnieszka Radwanska in the final after the Pole shrugged off a shoulder injury to beat Germany’s Andrea Petkovic 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.

It wasn’t the best of days for Petkovic who had to the leave the court during the second set to be sick.
