The draw for the Champions league final round of qualifying on Friday in Nyon Switzerland and the heavyweights will be breathing a sigh of relief.
Four-times European champions Bayern Munich were all smiles after being drawn against modest Swiss side FC Zurich as they attempt to avoid an embarrassing early exit.
Not qualifying for the group stage would be unthinkable for the Germany’s biggest club especially in a year when they are hosting the final at the Allianz Arena.
English Premier League side Arsenal had a slightly tougher draw but one the Gunners will feel confident of negotiating. The Londoners were pitted against Serie A club Udinese, who during the close season sold their three most important players in Alexis Sanchez, Gokhan Inler and Cristian Zapata.
Elsewhere Spain’s Villarreal will play Odense of Denmark while Former European champions Benfica take on Dutch side Twente. Copenhagen, who last year reached the last 16, were drawn against Viktoria Plzen from the Czech Republic. Former French Champions and Champions League regulars Lyon have been matched up with the Russians of Rubin Kazan.
The first legs will be played on August 16/17 with the returns one week later.
