Pedro Almodovar is back with a new film called ‘The Skin I Live In’ staring Antonio Banderas. It is a horror story about an unscrupulous plastic surgeon, and the film received mixed reviews when it was premiered. Audiences were divided between revulsion from the subject matter and interest in Almodovar’s always intelligent film-making.
Pedro Almodovar responded: “I try as just to make this story believable, so that we can feel that fear. But also it’s a movie about surviving because, of course, there is an incredible abuse of power about this scientist. But also in front there is a character, the character of Vera, who is a natural-born fighter, and this is something you can freely identify with, everyone can freely identified with that.”
Elena Anaya, who plays Vera, also starred in Almodovar’s film ‘Talk to Her’. She said: “Of course it can give me a big exposure, but also it’s like a big risk, you know; you do a film with Almodovar, so you better do it right. If don’t, you just run away from everything.”
