The hotel maid who accuses former IMF chief Dominque Strauss-Kahn of sexually assaulting her has been speaking to the media in New york.
Nafissatou Diallo said her family had been through hell since she made the allegations in May and that she wanted to clear her name.
“One day my daugther told me ‘mum please promise me you’ll stop crying’. You have to remember this guy is a powerful man, everybody knows that, but for you only the people that you work with, or our neighbours or the people back home know you. Those people say good things about you, because they know you,” Diallo said.
Strauss-Kahn, a former French presidential candidate, will appear in court again on August 23
He was released from house arrest earlier this month after prosecutors voiced doubts about inconsistencies in Diallo’s story.
