Prison officials have given a “negative assessment” of Platon Lebedev who wants parole, according to media reports. Lebedev is a former business partner of jailed oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

Early release is contingent primarily on a “positive assessment” of behaviour.

Last December Lebedev and Khodorkovsky, his former business partner at the oil giant Yukos, were found guilty of stealing oil and laundering the proceeds. They were both given 14 years in jail.
