The hotel maid at the centre of rape allegations against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has spoken publicly for the first time. In an interview with Newsweek the 32-year-old said she wanted Strauss-Kahn jailed.
It is also the first time Nafissatou Diallo has been named – she said she had no choice after her credibility was questioned. Diallo claims Strauss-Kahn sexually assaulted her when she entered his room to clean it.
Defence lawyers accuse Diallo of trying to inflame public opinion against their client by giving the interview. Strauss-Kahn’s next court appearance is in one week’s time.
Back in his native France, the Paris prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary inquiry into a complaint filed by writer Tristane Banon. She too is accusing Strauss-Kahn of attempted rape.
