Serbia’s last major war crimes suspect, Goran Hadzic, refused to enter a plea when he appeared before a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
The 52-year-old is charged with 14 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity including the massacre of 264 hospital patients who were killed in Vukovar in 1991 and buried in a mass grave.
Hadzic was on the run for seven years and is the last of the 161 indicted war criminals to appear before the court.
His appearance comes less than two months after the capture of Ratko Mladic the former military leader of Bosnian Serbs.
A second initial hearing will be scheduled within 30 days.
