Amy Winehouse's family visit impromptu "shrine"

Having flown in from New York, Amy Winehouse’ father arrived outside his daughter’s house in London, to see for himself the carpet of flowers left in her memory.

The scene was too much for Mitch Winehouse and he was overcome by emotion. He thanked fans of the 27-year-old singer for the scores of messages, and walked along the banks of teddy bears, flowers and the occasional bottle of vodka.

Amy’s mother Janis was grief stricken.

The British soul singer was found dead at her home in the capital on Saturday. Her career had been haunted by the twin spectres of drink and drugs.

The cause of her death is as yet publicly unexplained. Fans are waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination
