Artist Lucian Freud, hailed as one of the greatest painters of the 20th century, has died at his London home aged 88.
Freud passed away after an illness, his New York art dealer said on Thursday.
He confined himself to drawing in the early stages of his career and staged his first one man show when only 21.
The artist, a grandson of the psycho-analyst Sigmund Freud, was well known for his paintings of nudes.
Three years ago, one of his pieces “ Benefits Supervisor Sleeping” created a world record price for a living artist when it was sold for 23.3 million euros.
