Serbia’s president has confirmed that war crime suspect Goran Hadzic was arrested in the region of Fruske Gore. Boris Tadic also answered a journalist’s question about why the arrest was so long in coming.
Tadic drew a parallel with the case of the United States’ most-wanted fugitive for a long time, Osama bin Laden, saying: “…work on that issue was very long and very hard — almost one decade. At the end of the day that was fruitful and that was very efficient. That is the same situation. We’ve been working very hard, we’ve been working systematically. At the end of the day we are finished.”
In Belgrade, ordinary people’s reactions to the news assessed practicality and justice.
“I don’t believe the arrest will change anything in our lives, but it was high time it happened,” one woman said.
“Well, I come from Croatia, but it’s not right to blame only Serbia,” said another.
