Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab takes on iPad

South Korea’s Samsung has launched a thinner, lighter, upgraded and larger screened version of its Galaxy tablet computer trying to take away some of Apple’s blockbuster sales for its iPad.

The Galaxy is a distant number two to the iPad with sales of around two million in the first half, but it is still far ahead of the rest of the tablet pack.

Samsung has sharply narrowed the gap with Apple in the smartphone market.
