FBI swoop nets hackers across US

FBI teams have raided locations in around a dozen states across the US, and arrested at least 16 people suspected of committing cyber crimes.

American authorities coordinated with police in Britain and the Netherlands, where more suspects were also taken into custody.

The Department of Justice said most of its arrests were connected to online attacks on the PayPal website — attacks which the hacking group “Anonymous” said it made.

A joint Justice Dept. and FBI statement read: “They conspired to “intentionally damage protected computers at PayPal”.

This followed hackers’ moves to punish the online payment system for cutting off a donation route to the controversial Internet publication site Wikileaks.
