Boasson Hagen claims second stage win

Norway’s Edvald Boasson Hagen produced a superb display to edge out his rivals and clinch the 17th stage of the Tour de France in the Italian town of Pinerolo on Wednesday.

Reigning champion Alberto Contador continued his good run of form by breaking from the peloton with fellow countryman Samuel Sanchez while France’s Thomas Voeckler lost 27 seconds after missing a turn in the descent.

Despite a solid run from Dutch rider Bauke Mollema, Boasson Hagen proved too strong and held his nerve to make sure Norway enjoyed another day of celebration.

Mollema eventually had to settle for second place, 40 seconds behind while France’s Sandy Casar finished third, 50 seconds adrift.
