Russian driver Vladimir Vasijev managed to a sneak a win in stage 6 of the Silk Way Rally of Russia.
The victory looked set to go to the Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel who was without doubt the quickest in 168 km special against the clock from Stavropol to Maykop.
The nine times Dakar winner lost time thanks to a flat tyre, which resulted in a second place finish in the stage.
The Pole Krzysztof Holowczyc came home third and was content to do so as he leads the rally by nearly two hours with only the final stage remaining.
In the trucks category the Russian leader Firdous Kabirov came to the aid of compatriot Alexander Mironenko after his vehicle slipped on a small hill and ended with it’s back bumper over the edge and front wheels in the air.
Kabirov leads the truck category from the Czech Ales Loprais ahead of the final stage.
