Mexican soliders set ablaze the country’s largest-ever marijuana plantation, which was uncovered in Baja California close to the US border on Friday.
The plantation measuring over 120 hectares was found some 320 kilometres south of San Diego.
Authorities estimate the marijuana would have a street value of 113 million euros (160 million dollars).
The plantation’s destruction comes in the midst of President Felipe Calderon’s war on drug trafficking.
Announced shortly after he took office five years ago, Calderon has deployed tens of thousands of troops on the streets to take on the drug barons.
But violence has spiralled since then, with more than 40,000 people losing their lives in drug trade-linked killings.
