Mount Lokon erupted on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi on Thursday, spewing lava and hot volancic ash as high as 1,500 metres into the air.
Authorities have started the evacuation of some 28,000 people living within a 3.5-kilometre radius of the volcano.
There were no reports of any casualties at 10:00 CET on Friday.
Indonesia sits on what is known as the Pacific’s ‘Ring of Fire’ as the country is frequently hit by natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes and floods.
Mount Lokon last erupted in 1991.
