Stage five of the Silk Way Rally of Russia saw the leaders in both car and truck categories lay down the gauntlet with two days of racing to go.
In the cars the pole Krzysztof Holowczyc extended his lead in the race overall by winning the stage.
Holowczyc suffered a flat tyre, but still managed to finish 2:29 ahead of his nearest rival France’s Stephane Peterhansel, Peterhansel himself was hampered by an engine cooling malfunction.
In the trucks Russia’s Firdaus Kabirov moved closer to overall victory as his nearest challenger the Czech, Ales Loprais, had a bad day. His co-driver suffered from headaches after much high speed buffeting and as a result the German Franz Echter finished second.
