Winding through another 432km of Russian grasslands and desert, the 130 teams signed up to Silk Way Rally tackled the third stage between Volgograd and Astrakhan on Tuesday.
Pole Krzysztof Hołowczyc won the stage with a time of 5 hours 18 minutes and 33 seconds, thanks to errors by Stephane Peterhansel, who was second.
The official rally website reports how the 46-year- old Frenchman in the mini, got stuck in the sand and – as he was reversing – got even more stuck.
The Pole continues to have a comfortable margin as overall leader of the general car classification.
In the truck category, Russian Ayrat Mardeev was the surprise winner of Tuesday’s 3rd stage, taking his first win in a big international tournament.
He beat fellow teammate and countryman Firdaus Kabirov.
Kabirov leads the overall rankings for the trucks at the end of stage 3.
