Relatives gather at Volga port

The relatives of the missing have gathered on the shore. Desperately they call them on their mobiles, hoping against hope that someone will answer.

The list of the passengers on board the Bulgaria has been posted on the wall, along with the survivors identified so far. Relatives scan the names in the hope of seeing one they recognise.

One man described how his friend managed to get on the rescue boat. “He and his cousin survived but he couldn’t save his sister-in-law. He can’t make sense of it at all, he is in shock, he is not making sense.”

“My son was on board,” added another woman.“He only got married at the end of June. I am hoping he has survived, I spoke to him on the phone and he told me he tried to save a woman, but she slipped from his grasp.”

More than 90 people are still missing and officials have warned that the chance of finding someone alive is slim.
