US multiple murder suspect kills himself

In the US, a man suspected of killing seven people in a western Michigan city has shot himself dead.

The suspect, Rodrick Shonte Dantzler had engaged police in a gun battle and high speed chase before taking three other people hostage.

The stand-off followed the discovery of the bodies of five adults and two children in two separate locations in the city of Grand Rapids.

Police say they are confident that Dantzler was the suspect in all seven murders and had acted alone. Investigators believe that one of the victims was his daughter and another was an ex-girlfriend.

The three hostages are safe but two bystanders were wounded during the police chase.
