North Korean women test positive at World Cup

Two members of the North Korean squad have tested positive for banned substances during the Women’s football world cup in Germany.

The players were suspended for the last match on Wednesday against Colombia, and the entire team will now be tested. It has already failed to get into the knock-out stages.

Jong Sun Song and Sim Pok Jong became the second and third players at this year’s tournament to be found out as drugs cheats. Colombia’s goalkeeper Yineth Varon fell foul of out-of- tournament tests in Leverkusen at the end of June.

FIFA issued a statement condemning the footballers and reiterating its no-tolerance policy towards performance-enhancers.
