One dead, 14 hurt in Dutch stadium collapse

A man has died and 14 people have been injured after part of a roof collapsed at a football stadium in the Netherlands. The accident occurred during building work at the home ground of FC Twente in the city of Enschede.

Enschede’s mayor Peter den Oudsten told reporters “A large part of the roof has collapsed. A substantial number of people got trapped and there is one dead victim as far as we know.”

It’s understood that the only people present were construction workers involved in the expansion of the stadium. At least two of the injured were said to be in a serious condition.
Earlier police told reporters that an unknown number of people were trapped under the fallen roof.
