The South Korean city of Pyeongchang was chosen by the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday to stage the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Hundreds of South Koreans gathered at a giant ski jump in Pyeongchang, waving flags and singing songs with hopeful messages.
Their prayers were answered when International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge announced Pyeongchang’s bid beat European rivals Munich and Annecy
Pyeongchang narrowly missed victory in each of the last two Winter Olympic votes, losing out to Vancouver for the 2010 Games and to the Russian resort of Sochi for 2014.
