Pyeongchang will host the 2018 Winter Olympics

The 2018 Winter Olympics will take place in Pyeongchang after the South Korean city won an overwhelming victory in a vote by International Olympic Committee members in Durban on Wednesday.

Ten years after its first bid, Pyeongchang’s third campaign was undoubtedly the most rounded.

Although the location is the one where the average snowfall is the lowest of the three, this proposal had one very important asset; all the events will take place between two areas very close to each other: Alpensia for all the snow sports and Gangneug on the coast for all the ice events.

The Winter Games have twice been held in Asia before, both times in Japan – Sapporo in 1972 and Nagano in 1998.
