In New York, lawyers defending the former head of the IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn against sexual assault charges have emerged from a meeting with prosecutors with no firm comment on the outcome.

Ever since Strauss-Kahn was released from house arrest last week reports have been rife in the city that the case was close to collapse.

His defence team declared the latest meeting with prosecutors ‘constructive’ but had no further comment.

Strauss-Kahn had his bail money returned and was released from house arrest when doubts emerged about the credibility of the hotel chambermaid who alleged he assaulted her in May.

Despite that the investigation has remained active.

The next hearing is scheduled for July 18th.
