After emergency surgery to remove a cancerous tumour, officials in Venezuela say Hugo Chavez is expected to make a full recovery.
Venezuela’s Vice President says his boss, who was seen looking thin but animated on a mediated stroll with his family, is hoping to recover in time for next year’s presidential election.
Chavez was rushed to hospital on June the 10th during a state visit to Cuba. He had emergency surgery to remove a malignant growth.
What type of cancer it was has not been revealed.
Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro – the man seen by many as Chavez’ political mentor – says he is confident the Venezuelan President will win his health battle.
The news prompted celebrations in Caracas.
Venezuela has been in the grip of rumours about Chavez’ health, fuelled by his month-long stay in Cuba.
