William and Kate cheered in Ottawa

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – Prince William and his new bride Kate – are continuing their successful visit to Canada in Ottawa.

The Duchess wore a red maple leaf fascinator on her head in recognition of it being Canada Day.

The royal couple from the UK are on their first official tour together. They were greeted by huge crowds of well-wishers around the federal parliament building.

The trip is designed in part to strengthen bonds between the monarchy and Canadians, whose head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, William’s grandmother.

The couple will tour seven cities in four provinces and one territory before heading to California on July 8.
