Hundreds of thousand of people flocked to the southern coastal town of Essaouira in Morocco for this year’s Gnaoua festival – a true laboratory of musical experimentation born some 14 years ago.

The aim of the event is to preserve and promote the very ancient Gnaoua music and tradition, which originated in sub-Saharan Africa, and attracts a broad and rich crowd of musicians and fans.
