UK seed supplier linked to French E.coli cases

Officials in the United Kingdom are investigating a possible link between an Ipswich based seed supplier and an E coli outbreak in France.

French authorities have ordered retailers to suspend sales of fenugreek, mustard and rocket seeds provided by Thompson & Morgan.

Ten cases have been detected in Bordeaux and seven people are still in hospital after eating infected food at a leisure centre in Begles close to the city famed for its wine.

Two of the 10 patients are said to be suffering from the same strain of bacteria that killed close to 40 people mostly in Germany.

However, there is no suggestion that the fresh French outbreak and the German E. coli problem are connected.

No cases of food poisoning have been reported in the UK, but the Food Standards Authority are monitoring the situation.
