The ‘crucial’ June EU Summit proved not so crucial after all given the delay on the decision about the new Greek bailout.

Only a deadlock in the negotiations to nominate the future president of the European Central Bank managed to inject any suspense into the meeting. But even that didn’t last long: Mario Draghi was appointed to succeed Jean-Claude Trichet as head honcho of the ECB.

Near the office some celebrated a euro-burial.

Today the euronews Brussels bureau interviewed the Croatian State Secretary for European Integration, Andrej Plenkovic. He said Croatians still want to join the European Union, minutes before the heads of State and Government approved Croatia’s EU accession.

But that was hardly a great surprise…
