US health officials warn on breast implants

Federal health officials in the United States have warned that one in five women with silcone breast implants will need them removed or replaced over the next decade.

Silcone implants were banned for 14 years from 1992 amid fears they caused cancer and other diseases.

The US Food and Drug Administration said data showed that while such implants were “relatively safe”, there is still the risk of infection in some cases.
