The US Senate has confirmed the outgoing CIA boss, Leon Panetta as the new Secretary of Defense.

Panetta’s appointment as Pentagon chief was proposed by President Obama.

Top of his agenda is cutting the defence budget and overseeing the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
