The excellence of Europe’s bathing waters sunk slightly between 2009 and 2010, even if overall quality remained high. Mediterranean countries topped the clean list, according to the latest report released by the European Environment Agency.

Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium, however, had the worst standards. In a bid to improve things Brussels has issued new bathing classifications. Three stars equals excellent, zero stars equals poor.
