Solar Impulse graces the Paris Air Show

A new era in aviation – the Solar Impulse aircraft arrived after its fuel-free flight making its premier at the world’s largest international air show in Paris.

12,000 solar cells integrated into the wing, supply four electric motors charging lithium polymer batteries during the day enabling the craft to fly by night.

With a flying speed of 70 kilometres per hour it is hardly a jet, but its founder Bertrand Piccard said it will revolutionise the aviation industry.

The Paris show has always invited pioneers – the presence of the Solar Impulse is continuing the tradition.
