Yemen’s Gulf neighbours have renewed an offer to mediate in the country’s violent political crisis.
The members of the Gulf Cooperation Council meeting in Jeddah made the move while the wounded Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh recovers in a Saudi hospital.
GCC Secretary General, Abdullatif al Zayani said “the five countries are willing to continue the initiative which although on hold is ongoing if its the case that all Yemeni factions request it.”
Weeks of protests have called for a reluctant Saleh to go and now in his absence demonstrators are demanding the formation of a transition council.
Opposition parties say they’ll do it within a week but it’s unclear how much influence they have.
