Pressure grows on sext scandal congressman to quit


Surrounded by reporters, US Congressman Anthony Weiner said yesterday: “I’ve made mistakes, as I said on Monday … now I’m just going to try to get back to work.”

But the 46-year-old’s Democrat colleagues want him to go.

Many, starting with House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, are openly calling for him to resign in the wake of his internet sex scandal.

The New York representative does say he will seek a leave of absence for treatment after finally admitting sending lewd messages and pictures to women he had contacted via the internet. Initially he had claimed hi twitter account had been hacked.

His supporters point out he has broken no laws and never actually met the women. But when the pictures went public and it emerged he had contacted a 17-year-old girl, it was too much for the party.

Especially after it was reported his wife of just a year is pregnant – his wife who is also an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
