Iranian journalist Reza Hoda Saber began refusing food in prison in Tehran after hearing that a fellow activist died during a clash with police at her father’s funeral. Now Saber is dead.

Opposition activist and women’s rights campaigner Haleh Sahabi died on June 1 during scuffles with police at her father’s funeral.

The authorities in Tehran say Saber died of cardiac problems after being taken to hospital.

But his lawyer says an official complaint has been placed in the hands of the prosecutor. Saber complained of feeling unwell in prison but there was a delay before the authorities took him to hospital.
