Anti-Saleh demonstrators flood Sanaa

The streets of the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Saturday belonged to opponents of President Saleh as they put on a show of strength to tell him he was not welcome to return.

The Saudi hospital where he is being treated reports that he remains in a serious condition with breathing and lung problems, and the extent of his injuries implies he will not be returning soon. In the meantime demands for an interim administration to be formed are growing.

Fighting has intensified in the southern Abyan province where the army says it has killed 21 al-Qaeda members, although the main city Zinjibar remains in their hands despite the army’s efforts to retake it. In all at least 30 people were killed in Saturday’s fighting.
