Reports of 1500 migrants arriving at Lampedusa

Three boats carrying an estimated 1500 migrants from North Africa arrived off the southern Italian island of Lampedusa overnight. The vessels are thought to have come from Libya. Thousands have fled the conflict in Libya on rickety boats in recent months, creating a huge immigration surge on the island.
