Soldiers in Yemen have fired warning shots into the air to stop protesters getting too close to the home of the country’s acting president.

Crowds of people scuffled with an army unit which up until now has been supporting and protecting the protesters.

The demonstration was held outside the residence of Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

“Our goal is not only the departure of (president) Ali Abdullah Saleh but to oust the whole regime. We want a transitional council that can rule the country,” said one protester.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh was wounded when rockets struck his palace last Friday, killing seven people. He is being treated in Saudi Arabia.
