A third-term for Macedonia’s PM

world news

| |

Macedonians appear to have returned Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski for a third term in a snap general election.

With most votes counted, the conservative coalition government claimed victory saying it had won 39 percent of the vote.

Macedonia’s main opposition Social Democrats, led by former premier Branko Cervenkovski, look like coming in seven percentage points behind the winners.

With Macedonia being one of Europe’s poorest countries, many voters will be looking to the new government to stimulate the struggling economy.
