The Venice Biennale, the world’s oldest and perhaps most-talked-about festival of modern art, is getting underway.

Every two years, more than 300,000 culture vultures converge on the Italian city. And they can expect to raise an eyebrow or two, as this year’s 54th edition begins.

One ‘exhibit’ making headlines is a huge, upturned tank placed outside the US pavilion. A treadmill has been placed on top of it and a runner can be seen pounding away, as the tank’s wheels turn.
