It was one of the biggest parties the city had ever seen, Barcelona’s triumphant players brought European football’s most prized trophy home to their Nou Camp stadium where they celebrated with almost 100,000 fans.
The club’s 3-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday night rounded off a superb season for the Spanish giants – they are also Spain’s domestic league champions for the third year running.
Fireworks and confetti filled the evening air as ecstatic fans cheered and applauded. The players themselves seemed hardly able to believe what they had achieved. Some experts say this is Barcelona’s best ever team.
Earlier they had flown back from London on a plane decorated in the club colours , boarding an open-top bus which wound its way through the crowded streets – supporters sought every vantage point to catch a glimpse of their heroes, especially the player currently considered by some as the best in the world, Lionel Messi.
Barcelona certainly relished their win which added more silverware to their already full trophy cabinet, and who can blame them …. apart from Manchester United fans perhaps.
