Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has publicly backed his Deputy Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba who has been chosen as leader of the country’s Socialists.
The challenge is to reverse the party’s slumping ratings ahead of a general election next year. The government was savaged in local polls last weekend over the struggling economy and austerity measures.
