Thousands of people have gathered in Belgrade to celebrate the birthday of former communist leader, Josip Broz Tito, who died 31 years ago.

Many laid wreaths and paid tribute at the House of Flowers mausoleum where Tito is buried.

His actual birthday was at the beginning of May but in Serbia it was marked on 25 May, “Youth Day” with various special events.

His grandson, Joska Broz, said that he was very happy to see how many people came to his grandfather’s grave.

“The most important thing is that the young people have realised that it was a good time, and that now we are – once again – on the path to realise it,” he said.
