US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are currently on a state visit to Britain.
At a banquet hosted by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace last night he hailed the “special relationship” between the US and the UK.
“To the vitality of the special relationship between our peoples and in the words of Shakespeare, to this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England. To the Queen,” he said in a toast.
It is the president’s first state visit to the UK and involves as much politics as pomp.
Today’s agenda includes a speech in the House of Commons and talks with British Prime Minister, David Cameron.
The two met briefly at Downing Street yesterday and, in a photo opportunity again designed to underline that “special relationship”, teamed up for a table tennis match against school children in south London.
